Can a windshield chip or crack be repaired twice?
Short answer
Sometimes. If an earlier repair didn’t fill the chip completely, air pockets can often be filled on a second visit. If a crack has run out from an old repair, the crack itself can often be repaired. What makes a second repair hard is old resin that has already cured with air, dirt or glue trapped inside, which is common after DIY kits and super glue.

When a second repair usually works
- The first repair left small dark spots or “half-moons” of air in the chip. Those can often be opened and filled.
- A crack has run out from a chip that was repaired earlier. The new crack is fresh and can often be repaired on its own.
- A new chip appeared somewhere else on the windshield. Every chip is its own repair.
When it’s harder
- A DIY kit or super glue sealed the top of the chip with air still inside. Cured resin and glue can’t be pushed out, so the new resin has nowhere to go.
- The chip sat open for a long time before the first repair, and dirt is trapped under the cured resin.
- The same spot has been worked on several times.
